NFC, HCE & Contactless

Accourt has worked with a number of players in the market in the past few years and has tracked NFC and Contactless technologies and those that have superseded them like barcodes, 3D barcodes etc., mainly due to the difficulty surrounding the business case.

In 2014 we worked on some specific HCE projects and are highly qualified to help you with NFC, HCE & Contactless payments issues.

Why NFC/Contactless?

Near field communication (NFC) is a set of ideas and technologies that enable contactless cards, mobile phones, passive RFID and other devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into proximity, typically a distance of 10 cm (3.9 in) or less. Each full NFC device can work in 3 modes: NFC target (acting like a credential), NFC initiator (as a reader) and NFC peer to peer.

Host Card Emulation (HCE) is the presentation of a virtual and exact representation of a smart card using only cloud based software. Prior to the HCE architecture, NFC transactions were mainly carried out using a Secure Element in a mobile phone or its SIM card. HCE enables the following: merchants to offer payment cards solutions more easily through mobile, closed-loop contactless payment solutions, real time distribution of payment cards and, more tactically, allows for an easy deployment scenario that does not require them to change the software inside the terminal.

Key questions & Accourt Focus:

  • How does HCE work?
  • How do I deploy an NFC/HCE infrastructure?
  • Which is best for my business, HCE or NFC?
  • Contactless & transport.
  • Benefits of accepting contactless cards for merchants?
